Outreach Services

The SSJ Welcome Center serves the residents of distressed Kensington neighborhoods who desire to improve the quality of their lives. We operate as a resource site to connect clients with appropriate city, health and educational services. As needed we serve as advocates and interpreters.

Outreach Services Include

    • Turkey Trot: Our generous donors and supporters have been providing Thanksgiving feasts for our families in need for many years! We are so grateful to Corpus Chrisit in Lansdale, Saint Elizabeth in Upper Uwchlan, Representative Maria Quinones Sanchez and her office, the Philadelphia Police Department, Giant, Acme, and ShopRite, and individual donors for providing 131 Turkeys in addition to other traditional Thanksgiving foods this year, so that our immigrant friends can celebrate Thanksgiving. More than simply food, these dinners allow our friends celebrate a traditional American holiday, and truly feel that they belong in our community.

    • Giving Tree: Christmas is a time of giving, and no where is that more clear than at the SSJ Welcome Center! Each December students and families are able to “shop” around the SSJ Welcome Center, choosing gifts that are meaningful for their children to open on Christmas morning. We are so grateful to the many elves who provide our students with a dignified way to share Christmas with their families:

      • Nativity, Warminster
      • Saint Luke’s, Glenside
      • Saint Paul, Philadelphia
      • Saint Monica, Berwyn
      • Corpus Christi, Lansdale
      • Assumption, Feasterville
      • Saint Anastasia, Newtown Square
      • Holy Innocents, Philadelphia
      • Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia
      • Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia

Saint Joseph’s Day Service: A wonderful tradition of the Sisters of Saint Joseph is to celebrate Saint Jospeh’s Feast Day with acts of service. Learn how Sisters from the Congregation decided to serve this year and check out the SSJ Welcome Center’s Blessings Bags below!

Saint Joseph’s Day: Day of Service

Thank you to our friends who donated items to our Blessings Bags, and who came in to help us put them together. Saint Joseph knew what it is like to struggle as an immigrant and refugee. In honor of Saint Joseph’s Day, the Sisters, staff, volunteers, and friends of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center put together Blessings Bags to serve to our dear neighbors in need at Saint Francis Inn and House of Grace Clinic. As Saint Joseph’s Day approaches, we reflect on our ministry to serve those who are poor, marginalized, and vulnerable in Kensington, Philadelphia. We re-commit to our mission to offer opportunities that enable immigrants and others to improve the quality of their lives through access to education and support services. And we welcome you to visit our home with a heart.
